Time the order flow

Restaurant software succeeds or fails under service pressure. Build a representative menu with modifiers, add-ons, combos, service charges and different preparation stations, then time a real order from waiter entry to kitchen production and payment.

If you use table service, test moving items, splitting bills, adding guests and resuming an open order. For counter service, test fast search, barcode or quick buttons, payment and receipt speed. The workflow should fit the venue rather than force staff to navigate unnecessary screens.

Connect front of house to stock and finance

  • Confirm how ingredients, recipes or stock items reduce when menu items are sold.
  • Test wastage, voids, complimentary items and staff meals with permissions and audit trails.
  • Check whether kitchen tickets or display screens preserve modifiers clearly.
  • Reconcile cash and M-PESA at shift or day close.
  • Review branch-level and consolidated reporting if you operate more than one location.
  • Confirm electronic invoicing requirements and the actual eTIMS integration path where applicable.

A daily sales total is not enough. Managers need to explain variances, discounts, voids, unpaid orders and payment-method differences without rebuilding the day from paper notes.

Test outages and recovery

If internet connectivity can affect your location, ask exactly what the POS can do offline and what cannot be done. Test a realistic outage, reconnect, and confirm that orders and payments do not duplicate during synchronization.

Also test device replacement and backup recovery. A restaurant should not lose a trading day because one tablet, terminal or local database fails.
